Our Denver Auditor's Office is built on integrity, driven by results, and recognized by its peers as a model of excellence.
The Denver Auditor's role is to serve as the city’s watchdog, ensuring your taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently and effectively and that the city operates as well as possible for all residents.
Your Tax Dollars Deserve Oversight
The Denver Auditor’s Office, led by the independently elected Denver Auditor, is the public’s watchdog. It makes sure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, legally, and in ways that truly serve our community. By conducting independent audits and reviews, the office shines a light on what’s working, what’s not, and how city services can improve.
The office does not audit the city's financials but rather reviews the efficiency and effectiveness of city agencies, city programs, and other organizations that receive public funds. This includes ensuring city agencies comply with the law, perform at their best, and provide equitable services to all Denver residents. The Auditor holds government agencies accountable.
The office also holds city contractors accountable. When Denver hires private companies to deliver services, the Auditor’s Office checks that they keep their promises and follow the rules. Strong oversight protects public funds, prevents waste, and ensures residents get the results they deserve.
Through Denver Labor, the Auditor’s Office stands up for working people. Denver Labor enforces minimum wage and prevailing wage laws, investigates complaints, and makes sure workers are paid fairly. A strong Auditor fights for both fiscal responsibility and fair pay — because accountability should protect taxpayers and workers alike.
An award-winning, high-performing auditor’s office doesn’t happen by chance — it happens through strong leadership, ethics, professional expertise, and determined commitment to accountability for the people of Denver.
How Your Voice Matters in Making Denver’s Government Work Better
The Denver Auditor’s Office encourages the public to recommend audits for city agencies and programs to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency. Citizens can submit suggestions by emailing the Auditor with input helping to shape the annual audit plan, particularly focusing on areas of risk, equity, and public safety.
As Auditor, I will continue ensuring your voice is heard both in identifying meaningful audits and in protecting workers’ rights.
